Absolutely the best infant seat, period!

I had the original KeyFit infant seat for my daughter and we were just in a crash 4 days ago. It was 40mph head on crash and my airbag deployed. My baby was perfectly safe in her KeyFit and I am so thankful to Chicco for making a superb car seat. I replaced it with the new KeyFit 30 and couldn't be more thrilled. If there is one good thing that came out of the accident, it's that I got the new KeyFit30. All the great features of the original and now rated to 30 lbs! After being in the accident, I definitely want to keep my daughter rear-facing as long as possible.
br /
br /Chicco also addressed what was the only complaint I had on the original seat - the canopy didn't stay open and wasn't big enough. Now it stays open like it should and they added the extra visor part. Perfect!
br /
br /The only downside to the new KeyFit 30 is the color choices - I liked my grey and green original colors better, but you can't complain when everything else about this seat is perfect. The fabric is super easy to keep clean and I have not had a problem with my baby sweating in it like some other reviews have stated (and we do get hot summers, but I do also have A/C in my car). The ease of installing the seat and of getting baby in and out is great. I will say that in some cars the LATCH attachment isn't the best fit, and it's better just to install the base with the seatbelt (the case w/my Toyota Matrix).
br /
br /Really there are no faults with this seat and I am so thrilled that it now can hold my daughter until 30 lbs (which will be quite a while as she is on the small side)!
br /
br /Absolutely my highest recommendation on this car seat!

A breeze to install, very sturdy and comfortable

We were in a car accident and had to replace our Graco SafeSeat. We decided to go with this seat because of the promised ease of installation. Our SafeSeat took quite a while to install and never really seemed secure. This seat was so easy! I installed it in less than five minutes and it is very secure. You just snap the LATCH connecters (which are cleverly designed and easy to use) onto the hooks in your car and then pull a single strap coming out of the middle of the base.
br /The seat itself seems sturdy and comfortable. My 15 month-old has been asleep in it for over an hour this morning. She hadn't slept that long in her Graco seat since she was around 6 months old.
br /We love this seat!

Excellent pick for the price

This was rated the safest seat by Consumer Report last year. It is not the cheapest, but far from the most expensive too. The value for the looks and safety is probably more than fair.
br / PLUSES are that it snaps in and out of the car and stroller very easy. It is one of the safest for the baby and it is comfortable from what we can tell
br / MINUSES are that it will not fit the back of shopping carts like you will see Graco's and some of the others.

Great, easy to install, perfect fit for baby

My son loves this car seat. The newborn padding provides a comforting space for him to enjoy the ride. I was skeptical about the denim color, but it looks better in person. We easily installed this in our car. Buy an extra base if you plan to use it in multiple vehicles.

I highly recommend this car seat. Well designed, well made. Very handy to be able to leave the base in the car, just unsnap the carrier go.

Wish it was softer

I ordered this car seat because it was rated by Consumer Digest as the safest. It is definately easy to use. My only complaint is that the material is not soft. It's kind of has a vinyl feel to it.

easy to use, seems comfortable, but a bit heavy

This is a nice car seat -- easy to install initially and easy to take the seat in and out of the base. The straps are also all very simple to adjust and attach and detach. It was rated very well in Consumer Reports because of this -- not because it is safest, but because it is easiest to use. They do not address safety ratings per se.
br /My only complaint (and I don't have much to compare against I must admit) is that it is fairly heavy to carry around. It is very cumbersome to carry at your side (arm extended, seat by your knees) -- but carries OK if you hold the handle on the side and hold the seat against your chest. This is especially true when navigating tight spaces or walking up stairs.
br /It is also large enough that it makes it near impossible to sit in the front seat when the chair is installed in my mid-sized car (Subaru WRX wagon). This is pretty inconvenient, but I don't know that another infant seat would be any better.
br /Oh, and just to nit-pick, the shade canopy isn't really big enough to fully shade the child, and it also gets in the way of the handle a bit when pushed back to stow it.

Great carseat

This is a great carseat - we love it. Easy to install, easy to snap in and out of the base, easy to strap the baby in, easy to clean, nice neutral colors. Doesn't really fit in the shopping cart, but I don't feel like the ones that do are safe there anyway.
br /
br /One thing I don't see a use for, now that we have it, is the 30lb weight limit. We bought this carseat for our 2nd child (had a convertible for our 1st - no infant seat like this) and our 1st child, who is nearly 2 1/2 isn't 30 lbs yets and there's no way she'd still fit in this seat. I guess maybe if you've got a good robust baby it might come in handy, but otherwise...

br /Good value for a well-made product!

KeyFit-30 Seatpad Poor Quality

Purchased a KeyFit-30 in Atmosphere for my son on 07/28/08 and used it for about one-week...
br /
br /The seat emits strong foam/fabric fumes for the first week. Outside of short vehicle trips, the seat stays in the patio so the odor can be "aired-out".
br /
br /Interested in finding the source of the fumes, I remove the canopy seatpad from the seat core. To my surprise, there is ~4-inch tear with exposed holofil on the reverse-side of the seatpad (near the baby's "bottom").
br /
br /Emailed Chicco customer service two-weeks ago... No signs of the replacement seatpad yet.
br /
br /The Chicco KeyFit-30 is simple to install in the SUV. The lock unlock of the seat from its base is positive and natural (ergonomic-wise). The seat straps are easy-to-use (once you read the instructions practice a few times). The seat works well with the BumbleRide Indie. These are attributes to the seat's excellent engineering.
br /
br /The smelly foam easily-ripped fabric denotes poor quality control inadequate quality assurance at the manufacture locale (China).
