Overhead shields are not the safest choice

I can't believe that overhead shields are still being sold when 5 point harnesses are the safest. Its too easy for babies to fall out of the overhead harnesses because they are also only 3 point harnesses so no belt goes around their waist. But if you must get one you can get them for almost half this price at Kmart.

Good seat, bad version.

I like the Cosco Scenera because of its higher weight limits when rear-facing (the safest position for a child of any age) but I do not like this version of the seat. The overhead shield is much less safe than a 5 point harness, the most common and safest type of seat avaliable today. In an accident, especially when rear facing, a child's head can actually slam into the shield causing injury. Invest in your child's life - buy a 5 point harness.

We've had two of these carseats for quite some time. They were given to us as a baby shower gift before our twins were born. We kept the boys in their infant carriers for as long as possible and when we finally switched them to their convertible carseats I wished that we could go back to the infant carriers. I have no peace of mind when my boys are riding in these car seats. They just don't seem safe enough to me. Besides them not seeming safe enough other drawbacks:
br /The overhead barrier is a pain in the neck (and the kids don't like it much either)
br /It's really hard to buckle the harness because of the overhead barrier
br /The straps are hard to tighten
br /They're really wide (even without the cupholders on)
br /The fabric on the overhead barrier comes off constantly (it's held on with plastic pieces that 'snap' into the bottom...very easy for the kids to tear off)
br /
br /There are so many other affordable car seats...don't buy this one!
