Very difficult to clean

We bought this seat because it is comfortable and safe. But there is one HUGE drawback: it is *extremely* difficult to clean. Our daughter gets car-sick every now and then, and taking the cover off to clean it requires (a) removing the seat of the the car (b) unhooking half-dozen plasic hooks (c) unscrewing eight very tight screws (use a drill or a power screwdriver to save time!) (d) unhooking the seatbelts from the back of the seat. Then when you are done you have to put it all back together, re-install the car seat, and re-adjust the belts. My daughter is just starting to potty train, and I seriously dread those long car drives once she is out of diapers -- I am tempted to replace this carseat.
br /There are two other problems with the seat. First, head support is useless, doesn't stay attached with the flimsy velcro. Second, the belts are a bit of a pain to adjust, especially loosening the belt and re-adjusting the shoulder straps.
br /I would not recommend buying this product.

My son got a stomach bug and threw up all over his seat. Of course this required a thurough cleaning in the washing machine. In order to remove the seat padding, my husband had to not only take the seat out of the car, but unscrew the seat sections in order to free the cushions from the seat belts. What made it all the more awful was that my son later had to be taken to the hospital for IV fluids and we had to fool around with this seat putting it back together when all I wanted to do was get going.
br /Aside from this HUGE inconvience, I do feel as though the seat is rock solid and that my son is very safe in it.

Very nice seat but with some drawbacks

Overall, we are pretty happy with this seat. My 9 months old son seems to like it. it looks very strong and safe. Installation (using the LATCH system, rear facing) was very simple.
br /As mentioned in previous reviews, the restraint system is indeed annoying. It takes a minute or two of messing around with in every ride. It does seem very secure though and we definitely manage it (with some annoyance).
br /The other drawback we find is that when my son sleeps in this seat, his head sometimes falls forward in a very uncomfortable position. I think this may be solved by adding a few more towels under the base of the seat to increase the incline level. One towel isn't enough in our car (Mazda 3)

We've had this car seat maybe for about a year. My son is now two, will be 3 in 3 mos. I really did like this car seat, until the chest clip broke, and I discovered that it was irreplaceable. I'm going to be looking into getting a booster seat next. Probably the Graco CarGo Platinum. Hopefully I will have better luck with that.

Great seat!!!

This seat is great. I own one of these and a Britax. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how to tighten and loosen the straps. Also, the actual seat can recline or be sat up. My daughter has been comfy in this seat and we have taken very long road trips. If you know how to use a car seat this one is great. Half the price of the Britax as well. $$$ does not buy you safety!

it took two triumphs to figure out that I hate this seat

I originally went with this seat because two of my friends buy them all for their children. My baby loved being in her Graco infant carrier and snoozed everytime we got in the car. But at 5 months and at 90% for heighth, she outgrew the carrier and we purchased this carseat.

br /After purchasing the Triumph, my baby no longer slept in the carseat, and if she did, her head slumped forward and she kept waking up because her face was smashed into the chest straps. The seat is really wide too, and with a Honda Accord and having it rear-facing, I could barely see her face in her baby mirror from the rear-view mirror. The straps are what drove me crazy. You're supposed to tighten them by twisting the sideknobs, but it always seemed that one side was tighter than the other, and pushing her shoulder down. The straps were all hidden inside the carseat, so there was no way for me to even them out or even figure out what the problem was. The twist knobs were annoying to loosen too--not easy at all. My husband ended up returning this seat and getting another one thinking that something was wrong with the straps being uneven, but lo and behold, the second one did the same thing. Now, as a 10 hour car trip in the near future, I decided to return this seat and move on to a Britax Roundabout. Now, she is incredibly comfortable that I think she's stunned--she's absolutely quiet and relaxed anywhere we go!

Spend the money and buy the Britax!

We were not very happy with this car seat. We have twins now almost 2 years. We started them in this car seat around 6 months. There is virtually no support for their necks and the girls often wake up crying because their necks hurt from sleeping slumped over. At around 14 months on a road trip, we literally had to give one of our girls medicine and massage her neck because she was crying and could not walk because of the crick in her neck. No matter how we rearranged the cushions or tried to prop them, it continues to be a problem to this day.
br /
br /I also found the adjustment mechanism for the belts to be very difficult to execute until just recently. Don't know if it loosens over time or if it just took me that long to get the hang of it. Cup holders were broken when we first got the units. Very difficult to get seat covers off if you need to wash them. Have to take seats completely out of the car and use a screwdriver.

br /We just bought the Britax Marathon to replace these and I could not be happier. The edges of the unit prop their heads slightly when they sleep avoiding the slumped over pheonomena without creating a barrier that is annoying to them when they are awake. Unlike the Triumph which curves inward and promotes slouching, the Britax is curved outward and has good lumbar support. Adjustments to the belt are a breeze and there is a comfort pad where the attachments all come together. Though the seat looks huge, it does not take up any more space in the car width wise, if anything I think it is thinner and we can use until 65lbs.

br /Wish we had just spent the extra money in the first place.
