Makes it feasible to bring a carseat on the plane

This is a great gadget if you want to bring your child's carseat on the plane but think it would be too much hassle to have a carseat and a stroller. My almost-2-year-old daughter LOVED being wheeled through the airport in her seat -- she thought it was an amusement park ride. It's lightweight and very maneuverable, even when you're pulling a suitcase with your other hand and have various carry-on bags draped across your body!
br /
br /The only problems we had were:
br /1 - Most airplane aisles are not wide enough to allow the child to ride down the aisle in the seat. That leaves you with a carseat, carry-on bags, and a small child to wrangle onto the plane. Not a problem if you have more than one adult per child, but a hassle for a parent traveling solo. Other passengers (or in one case the flight attendant) had to help me. (Of course, this would be a problem if you had a stroller too, since you'd need to gate-check it.)
br /
br /2 - The instructions say you can use the seat on the plane with the wheels still attached, but while this is technically possible, I preferred to take them off. As the other reviewer said, the wheels tip the seat so far forward that the child doesn't recline at all, which seems uncomfortable. It's also more cumbersome to install the seat with the wheels on it than to carry them separately.
br /
br /3 - It won't fit through most baggage scanners with the wheels attached, so be prepared to take them off at security and reattach them afterwards. If your child is a bolter, you may want to have a safety harness for this phase.
br /
br /The wheels are pretty quick to attach and remove, though it helps a lot to practice several times at home.
br /
br /We've only used this once so far, but even for that, it was worth the purchase price.
Great, but get the updated version of model UNI06

The travelmate is awesome, especially if you are traveling alone. It will make your life so much easier. You'll get a lot of compliments at the airport, too. I really don't think there is a better product available. It did not fit through the X-ray machine at the airport or down the aisle on the plane. While those were slight inconveniences, I would still highly recommend this product. However, make sure you get the new and improved version of the UNI06. The wheels of the original travelmate I got were held on by metal caps. The wheel fell off when I was making my connecting flight the first time I used it. I had to scour the airport in search of the tiny metal cap. Without the wheel attached it's useless! I sent that travelmate back and got a replacement. The new one I received has tension springs in the wheels and was manufactured March 2007. It looks so much more durable and safer than the previous travelmate I owned. Plus, no more tiny metal caps to worry about.
Makes traveling MUCH easier!

**Update** I have been using this product for over 6 months and it still works great and makes life so much easier! I've been lending it to my friends for use on their trips and they love it as well. 5+ stars.

br /I love this product. I travel a lot with my son and this makes our lives so much easier. It is very light and easy to attach to the carseat (a Britax Decathlon) and can stay attached to the carseat and fit into an airplane or car seat. For the airplane seat you may need a seatbelt extender. This product makes the transportation of the carseat easier as well--sometimes I put my son in a stroller and hook the carseat to the stroller handles and tow it. It is extremely easy to steer. I highly recommend this product for those with children who travel a lot.

We just got back from a trip from Orlando to Chicago using the travelmate and it was quite the success!! As another reviewer noted, I had many people stop me to ask where I got it, especially the jealous looking man who was lugging his toddlers seat on his back!! This carrier is a DREAM, I was traveling alone w/ my 19 month old son and he had his own seat on the plane (if your little one is riding on your lap, you can check this at the gate just as you would a stroller so you cal have it available at your destination gate) and I planned to rent a car at our destination, so I really needed to take his carseat, but couldn't imagine how I would manage a car seat, a stroller, our carry on and him with only my 2 hands. This was the perfect solution. I was able to leave the stroller home, and w/ him strapped into the seat I could just push him along and all I had to carry was my bag. Once we got the Chicago, I was able to pop the wheels off and put the seat w/ the carrier attached right into our rental car using the latch system. You can probably even leave the wheels on, but I felt this tilted the seat a bit forward and we had quite a ways to drive and I knew my son would be dozing, I didn't want him lolling forward, but that is a personal prefeence. The only issues I had w/ the carrier aren't the carriers fault, they are the airlines. In Orlando it fit right through the X-ray machine no problem, but in Chicago it was WAY too big. Unlike some other reviwers I did not have to take it apart though, the security guy just took it aside and swiped it with a wand (simimlar to what they would do w/ a wheelchair), if you have someone try to make you take your seat off the carrier, ask them to do this instead, it was no biggie and actually was a help as I had to put shoes back on me and my son so we needed a minute anyway. The other issue I had was on our plane, I could not roll my son down the aisle in the seat, it is too wide, even after taking the wheels off (I thought that would give me enough clearance I could just drag him) it was too wide (I have the Alpha Omega Eddie Bauer seat, which is a monster, I admit) so I had to take him out of the seat and hustle him down to row 17 and carry the seat, which was a bit difficult as I am 5'2", so I was pretty much carrying it over my head to clear the seats, but there was no way I could carry it that distance w/ my 25 lb son in it. It also would only fit in the seat w/ the wheels off, but that is no biggie, they pop right on and off. Coming home, I upgraded us to business class, and that was much easier, we were in the first row so I could roll the carseat that far and the seats were MUCH wider, I was able to put the seat in w/o taking the wheels off, if you can do this I would, it made it a snap to get in and out, I never had to take him out of the seat. We are going to NYC next month for a wedding and will take his seat and this carrier again, it was well worth the price for the ease of traveling!

My wife just used this for the first time when flying with our daughter from the US to the UK. She couldn't be happier. It did need to be detached from the car seat in order to go through the x-ray machine, but that was simple as it is easy to take apart and re-attach. It is convenient to not have to take the child out of the seat when changing planes. It also seemed very comfortable for our daughter.

We just used the gogo kidz travelmate on a recent trip. We found it easy to use through the airports. Many people stopped us and asked where we got it from because they have never seen anything like it. I would recommend this product to anyone.
This item is gold.

This gogo Kidz Travelmate worked great at the airport. It was pretty easy to figure out how to put together. I have a Britax Boulevard car seat. Like some of the other reviews said, when going through airport security it did not fit through the x-ray machines but TSA wanded it instead. It was really no problem. I would not recommend dragging down stairs however; the bottom of my car seat got scratched. Also other reviews say that you can leave the wheels on in the car and you can but the instructions do not recommend this because it has not been tested for safety. Overall this product made going through the airport a breeze and I received many complements on it.
Couldn't think of traveling without it, but still has some room for improvement

I love this product for the reason that it makes traveling with my 1-yr old far easier than it was beforehand. That said, I don't know why they don't put quick releases on attachment as it takes 2 minutes to get the screws on/off. This is isn't a big deal unless the car seat does not fit into the xray unless the wheels are off, and they won't wand as everybody else suggested...and then 2 minutes can seem like a long time. Of course, I usually try and game it and hope that the unit does fit, which means that it becomes a flurry when I find out that it doesn't fit. Further, although I have not had a problem keeping the unit on when in the airplane, it can be extremely difficult getting the seatbelt through the back of the seat as the attachment is right where the seatbelt needs to go. Since the child has to sit next to the window with the seat, this means that it's even more complicated. I can do this with my smaller hands and a couple of minutes of trying, but my husband, with the size of his hands can't maneuver and has to remove the unit if he is sitting next to our child. In that case, it then becomes annoying once again to have to deal with the screws for the attachment. That said, despite the issues, I would highly recommend this product for the fact that there's nothing better out there and it does make a world of difference.

I purchased this product for our recent vacation and it worked wonderfully on our Britax Boulevard car seat. Attaching the Travelmate was easy and quick and it was great to wheel my daughter through the airport and not have to hold her hand while carrying the heavy car seat. I highly recommend this product to all who travel with young children.
More work than it is worth.

We used this product last spring and it is more work than it is worth. For the the ride to the airport the wheels need to be off of the car seat. Then attach them for the ride to security. Then take them off so that it fits through the bomb detector. Then attach them so that you can wheel to the gate. Then take them off so that you can get through the plane and use the seat. Next time I will just carry it and children can ride in the stroller which the airlines are willing to check at the gate.
br /I saw someone else with a backpack that carries car seats. I would like to find one of those.
This worked great!

We recently took a trip from Phoenix to Washington DC with a layover in Texas. We needed to take our Britax Roundabout car seat because we were not renting a car in DC and needed a car seat for the shuttle and taxicabs. This item allowed us to take the car seat with ease and no fuss. We practiced attaching the cart to our seat the night before the trip and I am glad we did. The directions are not very clear and it took us some time to decipher them. Once we figured it out, my husband was able to attach and detach our car seat without any help from me.
br /
br /At the airport, we simply asked security for a hand-check so that we dd not have to put it through the X-ray machine and they had no problem with this. We did take the wheels off on the plane but the cart fit nicely under the seat in front of us. We had enough time once the plane landed and we waited for our row to exit to reattach the wheels before it was our turn to exit the plane. We had a lot of travelers stop us to ask us about the go go kidz since they were also looking for a solution to traveling with car seats.
br /
br /In DC, we loved the ease of using our car seat as a stroller. It allowed us to wheel our son onto the metro, ride to our destination and even have his car seat in Taxicabs when we needed it. The wheels stayed on the seat in all of our taxi and shuttle rides. It was awesome.
br /
br /I did not give it 5 stars as I think there is room for improvement (better directions, more stability) but over all I would highly recommend this product for travels with Toddlers!

This is a great product. It attached to my Britax Marathon very easily. My son loved riding in it to the airport terminal. A couple down-sides: it didn't fit on one x-ray belt at one airport and had to be "wanded", also it did not roll down aisle on airplane, but with flight attendant help you'll be fine. I was traveling solo with my 22 month old and was very pleased with this product. I also received lots of compliments and it's much easier than having extra baggage with a stroller carseat!

We used this when we travel;d to Puerto Rico with our 7 month old. It makes carrying the car seat through the airport so easy! Our daughter enjoyed being wheeled around in it so we could check the stroller. The only cons are you have to have to take the child out of the car seat to take the carrier on and off and with our model of car seat, we had to remove the base. Oh yeah, the car seat dosen't always fit through the metal detector with the carrier attached, but security can hand scan it for you.

Gogo Babyz Travelmate
br /I only wish I had purchased this product sooner! We recently went on a trip and the Gogo Babyz Travelmate was a lifesaver! It simply attaches to the carseat you already have and then you can pull your child through the airport (almost like a stroller). This way we didn't have to push a stroller and carry a carseat. We simply checked the stroller and pushed our child in the carseat using the Gogo Babyz attachment. When you're on the airplane or in your car you don't have to take off the attachment it simply slides down out of the way.
br /The only thing that was a little tricky is the handle. It takes some time getting use to locking it in place.
Did what we needed for.

We purchased this item a year ago for a trip to South Africa. It worked great for us since we were taking the seat on the plane. But the big thing for us was at security having to take it off to go through the scanner was a big pain. The other issue we had was when we had to make a connection, having to stop to put it back together before running across the airport was not ideal. The only time my daughter sat in it was on the way home standing in line to check-in, which we ended up checking the whole thing on the way home since she never sat in the carseat on the plane either.
br /
br /We did get a lot of questions about it, and my husband did feel bad for all those dads we saw carrying carseats through the airport. But in the long run we decided it was not needed for our travels since our daughter perfers to sit in the seat. Ended up selling it on Ebay!
Brilliant gadget.

I've just returned from a month in the UK. I bought this after reading the reviews because I couldn't see how I would be able to manage both a car seat and a stroller. My son is too heavy to just have on my lap for 7 and a half hours, so he had a booked seat. We actually travelled first class (not something we normally do, it was a treat from my mum) and the Travelmate just fit between the seats to go down the aisle. It clearly wouldn't fit down the aisle of economy section, but most airlines will help carry the seat for you if you need them to. I took the wheels off (which takes seconds to do) and stored them overhead although in first class it would have fitted in the seat with them on. I kept the travelmate on the car seat for the entire time I was in the UK as with our Alpha Omega Elite Seat you can fit the seat in cars facing either way with the Travelmate on. I cannot praise this wonderful peice of kit enough, it made my trip home so much easier and will definitely be getting used again and again until my son is able to walk and hold an adults hand without having a tantrum! It was not hard to fit, took about 20 minutes the first time, and then about 5 minutes after that, its really easy. I didn't have to take it off to go through the x-ray machines either.

We flew from Switzerland to Oregon and this thing was amazing. Our carseat (Maxi Cosi) hooked right onto it and we strolled our 2-year-old around all 3 airports (including the layover). On the first flight, we left the thing on the carseat which works fine but left his feet in perfect kicking position for the seat in front of him. For the long flight, we took the thing off (very easy to do right in the seat) and he was a little farther back. He thought it was fun to be in there and we used it instead of a stroller. It was too large to roll down the aisle so my husband carried it while I carried our son. I definitely recommend it. Best of luck!

This product was a major lifesaver in a recent trip I took from Rome to Seattle. I wanted my 13 month old to sit in his car seat on the airplane, and the Gogo Babyz Travelmate made that possible. I was traveling alone with my toddler, and there was no way I could have carried him around the airport along with his car seat and other carry on bags without the help of the Travelmate. On our international flight, I wheeled my son in his car seat all the way to our seats. I wasn't able to do so on our domestic flight, as his car seat was too wide (but the Travelmate fit). This tool is easy to use, but I do suggest practicing the assembly a few times prior to your journey. This is a must buy when traveling with a young one with their car seat!!!

We purchased this in December 2007 for a trip across country. I definately recommend getting it all set up and practice with it first. That gave us the know-how to be as efficient as possible going through airport security. Thankfully, the people around us saw that we were working hard to be efficient and no one seemed to be bothered by it. You will need to take the wheels off for the baggage xray, but the quick-release makes it easy. Just plan ahead! In a hurry, we were able to buckle the seatbelt into a car with the wheels still attached. (Although I don't believe this is the recommended use.)

This worked well at our recent trip to the airport. We buckled our daughter into the airplane seat with the go go kidz travelmate attached to the seat (wheels and all). It didn't fit down the aisle of the Embraer that we flew, but it did fit down the bigger Boeing. Worth the money.

We traveled from NY to CO and this made the treks through the airports easy. They were easy to hook up and then when it's time to use the carseats in the rental, all you do is pop off the wheels which takes seconds and install the carseat. We had 2 of them for our 4 and 2 yr olds and they loved the ride. We must have been asked at least 5 times where we got them!
