My wife and I have been long-time fans of our Graco infant seat, so much so that we would have been willing to purchase a second one in order to ensure that either my wife or I would always be ready to get up and go with our son when necessary. However, Graco saved us from having to do that by offering this base alone as an accessory.

br /Some other reviews have claimed that having an additional base isn't really necessary because LATCH allows you to easily move the base from car-to-car. This sounds reasonable on paper, but breaks down in real life:

Ask anyone who's correctly installed a car seat or base via the seatbelt and they'll confirm that it is a physically difficult endeavor. Faced with a choice between regularly undergoing this exertion or else investing in an additional base and then leaving it in place, I'd bet 99% would go for the base (the other 1% apparently enjoy a vigorous workout at the most inopportune times).

I got the Graco Snugride in Glen Plaid as a baby gift and bought two silver bases to go with it--one for my car (which doesn't have latch) and one for my husband's car (which has latch). His was very easy to install. I had a shoulder belt system in my car and used that with my base. Everything seemed fine, but it seemed as if every time I went over a bump, the carseat would become loose. I couldn't understand, because my seatbelt locks in place. Someone reminded me that the base comes with a locking clip. (If you look, the directions on how to install it are actually in the owner's manual for the car seat (and not in the base's manual)--mine was on page 25). This was the key! Now my base is completely snug. Also, for people who have trouble with the base tilting--it takes a bit of strength, but if you put your knee in the middle of the base while you thread/tighten the seatbelt, it will stay down--of course, this was a challenge with my bony knees! (I learned from a carseat checkpoint, in order to get the base as snug as possible, don't allow the seatbelt to lock until you have it buckled and the lap part of the belt is snug. Then you can lock the belt and allow it to tighten. You can get it to tighten by pulling down on the shoulder belt part). This is a very snug seat/base, and my son seems to do very well in it. If you need help, go to a childseat inspection checkpoint (you can go to the NHTSA--National Highway Traffic Safety Administration--site and click on Child Seat Inspections. You can search by zipcode or state). Hope this information helps!

While shopping for our infant seat in BRU a father was in the store and told us how helpful having another base in my husband's car would be...well we received this as a gift and installed it in less than 15 minutes( it took awhile in my husbands car because he does not have latch)and is very secure. No slippage and movement. Placing your knee in the middle helps alot in making sure it is tight, so you may need another person if you are on the petite side. It is so helpful being able to lift her out and change cars if needed without major moving of bases.It took less than 5 minutes putting it in my SUV ( latch) and has not moved in 6 months...now she is outgrowing her Snugride infant seat so we will have to take these out but I would use this system again for our next child! I would give this 4 1/2 stars since putting it in took us a minute but that was nothing once it was in and we knew it was not going anywhere.

A word of advice to parents who intend on having one car seat between two cars: Get a second car seat base. I love having a second base, it makes life so much easier.

This is probably the most innovative invention that anyone could have made. I love the fact that we don't have to move the base from car to car every time we change cars. This also saves us from having to buy a second seat for convenience.

Also, I love that I can just unlatch the carseat from the base and carry her inside in the seat. It keeps the seat from getting cold in the winter time since you can take it inside with you!

Everyone should have one!!!

This car seat works well for my busy routine. It's lighter than other brands, not as bulky as other seats, and (most people don't know this) WORKS WITH OR WITHOUT THE BASE!!! This helps if you're ever car-pooling or using another car. That's right, the base it just an extra "snap'in" convenience.

A little known fact about the Graco SnugRide--you can use them without the base as a car seat, and it is every bit as safe (it actually seemed more secure to me). The bases mainly provide convenience.

br /If you will take your baby equally in both cars, then by all means buy an extra base. However, if you will use one vehicle as the primary baby transporter and the 2nd one only occasionally, save your money on this item. You can still take baby in the carrier with the seatbelt, and you'll have one less thing to store once you move into the "big" carseat.

After reading some of the other reviews, I had to write my own. The base with accompanying carrier IS safe. I had mine installed by my local police department who said the back of the base is supposed to be able to come up off the seat (in reference to another reviewer's comments). We tried installing it on our own and did a horrible job! For those of you having difficulty with the base moving around, try having it inspected by your PD. Good luck!

The overall greatest aspect of Graco carseats is that there is a lot of care is put in the construction. Graco tests their carseats in the same manner as auto manufacturers test their cars. I trust Graco because I have seen them put their emphasis on quality and safety rather than price and appearance. Compare that to other carseat makers, such as Britax and Cosco, which both have had several recalled carseats, and the choice of who to trust should be easy.

this is great to put in a second vehicle like grandmas, so you can just pop the infant car seat in and out, and the car seat is already securely installed.

We had heard really great things about this seat. Had it installed last week by the local police department and the officer said this is one of the best seats on the market. We have Corrolla's (one newer, one older) and we were able to fit it in both cars and not have to move the seats at all.

We ended up buying 3 of these so that both my husband and I had one in out cars and my daughter's Grandmothers' both had one for when they had the baby. Once you get the hang of it they are very easy to use and very convenient. And it saves you the money of not having to purchase expensive infant seats.

This is so easy to use - we miss it now that our son has outgrown it. Nice color and not heavy at all. No complaints.

I had my car seat installed by a GRACO rep, so I may have avoided some of the frustration that way. One thing about the carseat that I did not realize prior to this is that you can adjust the height of the back of the carseat (the part facing the back of the vehicle.) Some of the previous posters have mentioned how tilted it is; they may want to try adjusting it. The car seat is very easy to install with the LATCH system, and it is easy to lift the baby seat in and out of the vehicle. I think that having a second base is great because now it doesn't matter who is going to pick up the baby. There is not a huge pre-planning hassle.

We bought this extra car seat base to use in my husband's car. This works great, no need to switch the whole thing. It is worth every penny.

It took us almost an hour to figure out how to get the thing CORRECTLY installed in the car the first time. Although it was easy to get it in there, that didn't mean it was CORRECTLY installed.

It would seem that everytime I read reviews about carseats or their base, there is always a complaint somewhere about how difficult it is to install. well let me tell you that I have a four year old and a newborn set of twins and I have never had any problems with any seat I've purchased. This one is no harder than anyother. In fact, its Wonderful!(as is the snug ride infant seat!) If for some reason you are having trouble with puting it in the car properly, PLEASE take it to your local fire department!!! Though many dont like to take the time to do such things or are too proud to admit its hard for them, let me remind you that this is your childs life were talking about and nothing is more important than the saftey of your baby or babies!! There are also a number of items you can purchase for only a few dollars more! (again a only few dollars to your baby's saftey!) you can purchase a latch system or if your car isnt compatable and you have a shoulder belt you can purchase a clip that holds both the straps together on one side so that it doesnt wobble.(many seats come with this already, check the back of the seat to find out) I could say alot more but am running out of room. Hope this has helped or influenced you just a little. Please take care and do everything possible for the saftey of your child!

All graco bases are not the same. When you get your seat in the car, check it to be sure that it dosnt rock around a lot. If it does, return it for a new base. some of these bases have an extra hump of plastic in the bottom that keeps the seat more secure in it and others do not. We opened and tried out 6 bases before we found one that we were comfortable with.

This base and the Graco system in whole are great, however we did have to put a blanket under the base to get it to level up in both of our vehilce (a 2004 VW Jetta, and a 2002 Dodge Dakota).

My husband and I have been trying to reduce our years of accumulated clutter, and to our dismay that includes FOUR infant car seats including our brand-new DuoGlider SnugRide infant seat. The extra car seat bases simplify our lives and help us get a little closer to getting rid of all the clutter in the garage, too. Plus, the car seat base works with both the Latch system and with a regular seat belt. A must-have for parents who have more than one car and who have nearby relatives eager to help watch baby!

Yes, we bought a second base for our Graco system (which included the carseat/carrier, one base and the stroller). But, we did so, as several other reviewers have noted, for the added convenience. Just remember that your child outgrows the carseat/carrier (as a carseat) at 20 pounds. For our son that was at THREE MONTHS. Was it worth the $40 for three months? Most likely, NO, because his first three months we took him out a LOT less than we do now (when we are stuck with a standard car seat). Just remember the weight limit if you have a large baby.

This is the best thing, other than the car seat it self. My husband and I both work. I take our daughter to daycare in the AM and he picks her up in the PM so the extra base is a must and an AWESOME idea. This saved us a lot of money, but most important we still have the safety of Graco's Snugride.

We bought this when I started back to work for my husband's truck. It was so much easier than having to uninstall the base everyday. We have LATCH in my car, but not his. It was quick and easy to install either way. However, the LATCH is definitly easier and quicker. Highly recommended.

I bought this for our second car and it has been very handy. For the price you might as well save yourself the aggravation of figuring out how to use the seatbelt every time. If you have 2 cars or have someone else that drives your child around, get one.

This does what you want it to do, not much to it. However, I discovered one gotcha: in placing the infant carrier in the base- as opposed to just securing the carrier in the car without the base, the carrier sits higher and further forward when it's in the base. This was problematic for us cause those few extra inches now force the driveer (or, now passenger) move their seat forward. This obviously only applies to smaller cars. Without the base the carrier just fit in and no moving was necessary.

i love having an extra base for my husbands truck. makes life much easier not having to switch bases or buckle the seat in every time. product was shipped fast and i had no problems at all.

My mother purchased the Graco Travel System off of our BabiesRUs registry, and we love it. We purchased additional bases for my wife's car and my mother-in-law's car for convenience. And what a convenience it is!! Once the base is installed in the car, it takes a few seconds to get the car seat secured. We chose the navy color for my wife's black car and silver for my mother-in-law's white car. They both love the bases.

Fits in my car perfectly - I bought 3 bases - saved a lot of money that way, instead of buying 3 bases and 3 seats. It's perfect for when my baby falls asleep I just pull the seat out and bring him inside, no fuss at all.

I purchased the Quattro Tour, which came with the SnugRide. I have another son (23 months) who used an infant seat as well, and we never switched it, only switched cars.

br /I have to say, now that we have two children, its VERY hard to wake up and say, "okay, you can take the Subaru (my car) so you can have the kids", and having an extra base would save us if lets say (1) The weather is terrible, you have to re-install the base AND get a change of clothing! (2) If you do not have LATCH, very often if me or my husband have to take the kids, its in a time of quick thinking, and installing without LATCH takes up a good amount of time and patience! (3) An emergency doctor appointment (have had TONS), you really dont have the time to change carseats! (4) Thinking and worrying if you have the carseat, what happens if you dont!?

The base makes it SO STRESS FREE and easy to move baby. The same with carseats, no re-installing! I plan on purchasing two more carseats (DISCOUNT!) when my son outgrows the SnugRide, I mean the extra $40 on a carseat base will not make or break you! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

My grandaughter uses the Graco Snug Ride car seat. Her day care regulations say baby comes in and leaves in her car seat. We needed extra bases...the baby will always be with the carrier. This was perfect. Grandmother doesn't need the whole seat - just the base. My son said that this base "seated" into the car seat better than the original base that came with it. srs

I have three of these bases. One on my truck one in my hubbys and one in grandmas truck. It was super easy and a time saver not having to take one base out and move it each time we switched what truck or person had my son. Its a great thing and I just wish his new seat had bases like this now that he grew out of that style seat.

Having a second base is a great thing. It's a lot easier to make sure that the car seat is installed safely. We have a base in our car (we're the grandparents) and the baby's parents both have one in their vehicles. Sure the car seat can be used without the base. That's what we all did prior to the invention of the base but this is a lot safer and easier.

It's really convenient to have an extra car seat base. In addition to having the base in the second car, we've used the extra base on airline travels and extended grandparent visits. It also helped us to delay the cost of a second car seat for a year -- I would carry my child and the bucket seat into the day care and my husband would pick them up.

if you have a baby, and multiple cars, you must have a second base for the car seat. amazon provided this at a much lower cost than at the stores around my house.

You will need this extra base!! I ordered it thinking it would probably be a good idea to have. The day after it arrived my mother-in-law was sick and couldn't come over and watch the baby so my husband placed an emergency call to a relative and they were able to come over and pick him up. I had the original base with me at work 40 minutes away before this all happened.

We actually had to buy a couple extra bases for each of our cars and the sitters too.

We have 3 of them and have no complaints. I keep one in my car, one in my husbands, and have another for travel. It's super easy to snap the carrier onto it, and very easy to install in any car. I just travelled for 2 weeks with my 3 month old, and had no problem installing the base into rental cars and other family members cars. I could use the latch, or just use the seatbelt for older cars. I was worried that I would need my husband's help with the installation, but I was fine on my own just reading the directions. I recommend this for everyone!

This is pretty much a must-have for infant seats, I don't know why they don't just sell them together. Bases are great because you secure the base once with the seatbelt, then just pop the car seat/carrier in and out with a simple little latch. It also makes switching between other cars that have the same base a breeze. Definitely get this!

The SnugRide is a wonderful infant car seat, allowing for securing the child in the seat within the comfort of air-conditioning or indoor heat, depending on the season. It pops right into the base in seconds, allowing for getting the child in the car quickly to avoid prolonged exposure to the weather. If you own a Graco SnugRide and have 2 cars, it also really comes in handy to have an extra base. Not all SnugRides have the same base color, so be sure to note which color the plastic is on the carseat before choosing the color for the extra base unit.

My friend and I were out shopping for a complete travel system to prepare for my new baby, and we picked out the Graco Travel System. Now, I'm an "old mommy" who had a second baby at age 43 (surprise!), and I have been so impressed with this travel system. The base is SUPER EASY to install, and the matching stroller actually folds up in ONE FAST STEP with a "magic button" making this the best stroller I've ever had. You can get one of the Graco travel systems in a variety of colors, and it's so easy to buy additional parts (in my case, I was here looking for a second car seat base and found it)! This base matched an older style seat we had for a previous child perfectly. It has positions that make it easy to keep your baby level without using towels or support cushions under them. Highly recommended!!

This base is a must have if you are using an infant carrier in two cars. We have the latch system in both and it took us awhile to install the bases and have a secure fit. I couldn't imagine having to go through that everytime we wanted to switch cars. In fact now that they are in I won't remove them. I wish it was easier so we could go in our in-laws's cars,etc.

Our daughter is a first time mommie, our purchase of this car seat base made her visit home by air so much easier not to mention safer. Both first time mom and first time Grandma were pleased with this purchase. Hats off to Amazon for an amazingly quick delivery!

The manufacturer recommends use of the base up to 20 lbs. I would strongly disagree with this recommendation. I would not use this base for any baby that weighs 15 lbs or more. I purchased the Snug Ride Infant Car Seat with base and matching stroller. Using the base made it easier to get the car seat in and out of the back seat of our two-door car. However, once my child reached about 15 lbs it started to tip over when turning corners, so I had to stop using it. I had it fastened using an shoulder belt, and could not figure out the use of the latches.

The base fit into our car perfectly and was very easy to install.

My mother-in-law purchased us the SnugRide Infant Car Seat w/ the Silver base and Jogger Stroller. I must say the base is horrible. It slides all of the time and the majority of the time my daughter is tipped sideways while I am driving down the road. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have had to pull over and buckle that base in again. Thank goodness for her 7 year old brother who can sit beside her and hold onto the seat when it is connected into the base. The infant seat is much more secure when used without this base.

I thought i needed to buy the base separately when I bought my GRACO Snuggleride car seat - but you don't. The same base comes with the car seat. You only need this you have two cars with the latch system and don't want to move the base (which is not hard to do) from car to car. I should also say that you don't need to use any base at all with the carseat - the carseat comes with instructions on how to seatbelt in just the carseat carrier part without the base (which is what lost of people do in non latch cars anyway - althoug the base can be seatbelted into not latch cars too). If you have a latch car it is safer to use the latch system and the base - but the carseat can also be seatbelted in just like in the nonlatch cars. Latch cars are cars built after 2002.
