Awkward, but good for tall babies

If you have a tall family, the Britax infant carseat is for you. It allows for a baby height of 30 inches. The popular Graco only goes to 26 inches and our son outgrew that carseat at 10 weeks. You will find the Britax to be heavier, the clasp is harder to use, and it doesn't give you a loud, reassuring CLICK when you hook it to its base, but at least you will be able to use it for many months!

I love this car seat. After researching many different seats I decided to go with Britax after hearing so many great things. The seat is very comfortable for my daughter, every time we go out she is asleep in her seat within minutes. There is a head support with True Side Impact Protection in case of an accident, which is very reassuring to me. The material is very nice and easily washable. The straps on the five point harness are easy to adjust with just the push of a button and the pull of a strap. You can loosen or tighten the straps with the baby already in the seat. The base is set up for a car with LATCH but can also be used with a seat belt. When the seat is hooked onto the base, there is a loud click to let me know that she is locked in unlike the other reviewer mentioned. The seat is rather heavy. However, safety is more important to me than how much a seat weighs. This is one of the best seats on the market, a little pricey but what price would you put on your child's safety? My next car seat will be a Britax!

This thing is built like a BMW. When you get in a BMW, you feel safe, capable, and secure. This car seat may not be as cute as some but is that really what you are looking for in a car seat? It's strong, sturdy, adjustable, and has real side impact safety. You pay for quality, this seems to deliver.

Great rugged infant car seat, but it does have a few problems. It's really heavy if you ever use the seat outside of the car. The little head TSIP (true side impace protection) piece keeps falling down, last of all, adjusting the handle is difficult as the latches on each side really require a good pull. If you have large access car doors and plan to leave the seat in your car attached to the base, it's a great safe seat.

A car seat is, by far, one of the most critical purchases a parent will make. This is not a purchase where "cutting costs" should even enter into the equation! Instead, the well being of your child must be paramount. After months and months of careful research and deliberation; talking to lots of other parents; calling the actual top companies and asking a plethora of questions; my husband and I registered for the Companion!
br /
br /It was noted to me, that this is heavier than some of the other car seats, but in all honesty, you WANT a heavy and sturdy car seat! It easily attaches to the base and is compatible with not only Britax strollers, but several models of the Zooper strollers as well!!!! It is one of the best car seats on the market and I highly recommend it.

Robust and well constructed, this carseat is top quality. We did have an issue with the head support during the first few weeks of use. It proved to be quite big for my son when he was a newborn. We had to pad the sides so that his head won't tilt sideways. This didn't last too long though since my boy grew big quickly and the head support now fits snugly.
br /
br /We got the onyx color which on hindsight was probably not a great idea for our baby who gets hot easily. There are many times when we'd pull him out after a car ride sweaty at the back and behind his head. If you have a hot baby, we suggest getting a lighter color.
br /
br /Other than these 2 issues, we have been VERY happy with this product.

We have both the Boulevard and the Companion and both of them have their advantage and disadvantage.
br /
br /Yes, the seat is heavy and I do feel that it is a safe seat. It is a perfect fit for an infant as well as a carry all. I have not had any problems with the shade as it works keeping the sun away. The cover is easy to clean as well as the material under the cover.
br /
br /The price for the seats differ based upon the style of the cover. If the cover is a newly released style, then the price will be higher. Older styles are lower but from my understanding the seats are the same. Therefore, you might be paying a higher price for a certain pattern and not the workmanship of the car seat which is more important. If you like a certain style of covering you can always purchase an extra seat cover of the style of your choice. Certain stores have certain patterns as all vendors do not carry the same patterns but again it is the seat cover that is the difference in the cost of the different car seats. Before you purchase the car seat and you want to be certain that the workmanship has not changed, call customer service. They helped me and I am sure that they will help you as well.
br /
br /We did not have a problem with the baby getting too hot nor did we have problems with his head tilting as it was a perfect fit. Other than the strap tangling, we have not had any problems with the car seat.
br /
br /My problem with the car seat is the straps. The straps are not tangle free as they are on the Boulevard. If they were to add those straps to this car seat, then it would be a winner and that is why I gave it four stars.
br /
br /However, I believe the car seat is a good and safe seat regardless of the hassles. If I had to do it over again, knowing what I know, I would still purchase this car seat. It is a winner even though trying to keep the straps straight wore us out.

We purchased this after the fact due to a substaintial sale from amazon. We started with and currently still useing Eddie Bauer carrier/stroller combo. Which we found to be very accomadating for our tall newborn. We then splurged on the Britax stroller Vigor for its rear facing for walks. Amazon refunded extra savings so that was very nice and then they placed the matching carrier on sale so we jumped on it.
br /
br /In comparison, another review mentioned that the Britax carrier was advantageous for tall childen, perhaps its better then others but he Eddie Bauer surpasses Britax, in addition the Eddie Bauer is a bit more roomy or so it seems.
br /
br /However we are very impressed with the Britax carrier, the design of the handle is much better design to make for a much easier comfortable hand carring experience, so much more that it seems easier to manuver while holding, it even seems lighter although the two carrier realy do not feel any different in weight by themselves. The Britax head stabalizer seems as if it would be uncomfortable especially for our 4 month old, but surprisingly it was not. It sure does seem much more safer, with EPS foam all over the place on the carrier. The canopy does fully extend to give cover. All adjustments are very easy to make.
br /
br /The Britax seems like a wonderfull carrier for a small newborn and would highly recommend however be prepared for the carrier to be out grown sooner than expected.

Very nice car seat.

My husband and I really liked this car seat. It easily snaps in and out of the base, and it does make an audible click, contrary to another review saying that it doesn't. If yours doesn't click when placing it in the base, you are probably doing something wrong. It was nice to be able to keep our daughter in the seat while running errands instead of having to constantly strap and unstrap her. Especially since most babies tend to fall asleep in the car.
br /
br /The seat fit extremely well in our Dodge 3500. If you tried to aggressively move/wiggle the car seat, the truck would move instead.
br /
br /The head pad/support is superior to any other car seat's. It is also adjustable via a little built-in finger pump. We never had any problem with her little head flopping around like I've seen in some other car seats.
br /
br /A couple of things that prevented me from giving it a five star rating. The chest clip is not as sturdy as I would like. After a year of use ours had bent out of shape. However, a new chest clip only costs $3 on Britax's USA website, and I would highly recommend buying one or two extra and replacing them as needed. I am thinking that the reason they continue to use it on the Companion is because it seems like it is more comfortable than the bigger, sturdier clips that are used on Britax's other car seats. This chest clip is flexible and conforms around the baby's chest instead of pushing into it like the more durable ones might.
br /
br /The other thing that I didn't like was that the Companion was advertised as being suitable for children from four to twenty-two pounds. But, if your child is less than seven pounds, you have to purchase the "Low Birth Weight Foam" and put that in the car seat, THEN it will actually be good for a smaller baby. Our daughter weighed less than seven pounds for her first few weeks, and she always seemed to be a little scrunched in her car seat during that time. We didn't realize until much later what the problem was. It does mention the need for the foam in the user guide, but we either didn't pay attention to it thinking that our baby would be an 7+ pounder, and/or we forgot about it. My recommendation is that you purchase the additional foam, use it if you need it and return it if you don't. That way you'll be prepared if you have a skinny baby.
br /
br /Our daughter is pretty tall, so we had to switch to the Britax Marathon at 11 months, which is another great car seat.
br /
br /Would we use this car seat again? Absolutely. We've already refurbished our original one by completely washing it and replacing the chest clip and adding the Low Birth Weight Foam. It's ready for our next skinny baby. :)

You can't go wrong with any Britax product. This infant carseat is somewhat cumbersome, but it is for the baby's safety and protection. The cover is easy to wash and looks brand new after it air dries. Another great feature is that the sun shade gives ample coverage to shade my baby. The Peg Perego infant carseat did not have a large sunshade (I had the Peg for my first child). I also like that I can put the Britax Companion carseat in another car, which does not require the base (you can't do that with the Peg). I also love that this infant car seat attaches to the Britax Preview and Vigour strollers without special clips.

Despite the Consumer Reports debaucle at the very beginning of 2006, I have every confidence that the Britax companion lives up to its reputation as the safest infant car seat on the road.
br /
br /That said, if I had a time machine and could go back and convince myself to register something else, I would have gone with the top of the line Chicco instead. My daughter hated the closeness of the head pads, even on their most deflated setting. Later in her infant-hood, she seemed to hate them because they obstructed her vision.
br /
br /While we were glad to own something so safe all along, nobody *enjoyed* the companion. We're glad to be out of the companion and into the utterly wonderful Britax Marathon.
br /
br /Oh, and one more thing, I recommend the zippier, newer, companion-compatible stroller. We have the old one, which, while very stable, is too bulky for city use.

Best there is!

I'm not a huge fan of the "baby bucket" because I think babies get stuck in them for too long, but we needed something we could take out of the heat of the car. I have been very, very pleased with the Companion car seat. It is heavy duty and the "roll bar" on the base is one of a kind. I feel very secure that my daughter is safe in this seat. My only complaints, and they are minor, is that the chest clip is kind of chincy. My daughter is able to undo it now at 10 months old. And the nylon fabric gets very hot, and she's often all sweaty when we take her out despite the car's air conditioning. But otherwise, I am very pleased with this car seat and highly recommend it. Britax is the best, and we are upgrading to the Marathon when our daughter outgrows this one.

First for the pros --
br /Really easy to snap into and out of my snap n go double and its own base.
br /really light to carry for the level of safety.
br /Soft well padded covers. a breeze to take apart and wash the covers -- a must with spit ups and so on. mine came thro the wash really well, but wouldnt throw in the dryer, better to drip dry.
br /
br /can remove the inflatable head insert once baby outgrows it/ starts disliking it though the recommendation is to not use without. Once you remove it, the impact protection will be equivalent to non SIP seats.
br /
br /the above feature is unique compared to chicco or maxi cosi.
br /the anti rebound bar is another safety feature not found elsewhere.
br /
br /nice and roomy for tall babies works to 30" -- just remember to re thread straps and adjust the head pad insert appropriately.
br /
br /handle moves really easily into position though you do need two hands to get it to change position.
br /
br /The foam insert for children under 7 lbs, keeps them much more reclined than the other seats. so works from 4 lbs -- thats another reason to pick this seat for me since with twins due, i had a reqsonable expectation of low birth weight.
br /
br /CONS --
br /
br /you have to pay extra for and order foam insert separately from britax. so really description should read 7 - 22lbs.
br /
br /That head protection pad slides all over the place, making it tough to get a squirmy baby in place -- am going to try another reviewers suggestion of velcro.
br /
br /The low weight limit. This does not bother me too much, I am hoping this will last 4 mo or so at least, but like with my older DS I hope to transition my babies into a roundabout or other rear facing convertible britax, and keep them rear facing thro close to 2 years old. At the time when they are the most vulnerable new borns, I want nothing less than the safest car seat out there, and I feel Britax delivers that thro the years.
br /I am petite, and don't hope to really carry my infants in their car seats once the combined weight tops 20 lbs that would be a 15 lb baby
br /The chicco was rated better for ease of use by consumer reports, not for safety, and guess what, they had a huge safety recall where those seats would not secure correctly to the base. The only britax I owned that was recalled, was the marathon, and that was more a seatbelt issue, than the seat construction. The britax is plenty easy to use, and so much more quality than graco etc.

We bought this seat after weeks of comparison shopping and have used it for our son for 8 months; he is now in the Britax Boulevard. The base attached VERY securely in the car thanks to the rebound bar ... this was the decision maker for us ... this seat wasn't wiggling anywhere! The seat truly is perfection except the chest clip. The chest clip does not snap together like most others. This clip has a shoulder strap that is permanently in place and the other shoulder strap slides into the other side of the clip. At 6 months my son was able to pull on the clip and the shoulder strap would slip right out. Just recently he was able to pull the shoulder strap loose and wiggle his shoulder out from under the strap! And no, the shoulder straps were not lose ... he was snug in his seat. The only reason we moved him into the Boulevard at 8 months was because of this ... otherwise he still fit nicely in this seat still. Otherwise ... this seat would be perfect!

I really like this car seat. The head rest especially. It really holds a newborns head in place. It does get in the way a little when you are putting the straps on the baby's arms, but not enough to not love the car seat. I especially love the color for my little girl. All the pink car seats seem to get really dirty quickly. This color hides all the stains. The five point harness is also an easy way to put the baby in and out. It is very easy to get in and out of the base. I really recommend this car seat.

I am grateful to say I don't know how it would hold up in a car cash. Our son is 4 months old and loves this car seat, seems very comfortable. It is ok to pack around, probably no different then any other one, maybe a little heavier, but thats what makes it so safe. We bought 2 bases so we would have one in each vehichle, works well. I want to know my son is in one of the best made car seats. I like the color black also.

I love this car seat! It's been easy to adjust as my baby grows, and I feel safe when he is in it. I love the head support! The base was easy to install, and easy to move when needed. The baby does get hot in this seat, but he doesn't mind. I use this seat with the maclaren easy traveller when I am out and about. The seat is a little heavy, so I prefer not to carry it around. It fits great! Worth every penny!

This car seat is fantastic!!! It is very sturdy, well made and very comfortable for our son... he loves it!! He could sleep in it all day! It is also one of the highest rated safety car seats on the market right now according to consumer reports. The only thing that we have found is that it is slightly heavy and the shade that you pull down could be a little longer to cover more of the car seat. Goes great with the stroller too!!! I would highly recommend this to anyone!

I looked at tons of other seats before deciding to purchase this one. It's supposed to be one of the safest infant seats out there. I agree with the others who say it's a bit heavy, but I don't carry it as a baby basket, so I don't mind it if that means it's well constructed. I can lift it just fine when I need to put it on a supermarket cart or onto the stroller or for the trip from the car to the house. It has a headrest that's removable, which was great while my son was tiny and didn't have the neck strength. Now that he's five months old I took it off since it seemed to just restrict him. The straps are easily adjustable, the fabric is nice, the color is beautiful, and it fits onto our BOB jogging stroller which is a plus for me. I'm very satisfied with this carseat.

Overall this is a great carseat. It's heavy though and a little bulky. The buttons on the handle aren't that easy to press and reposition. As another reviewer pointed out, you want a heavy carseat. At times though, it was too heavy for me (a weak, postpartum mom) to carry. The Britax stroller, however is great and the carseat easily fits into it. The stroller is light, collapes in a milisecond and is incredibly easy to move around. I wouldn't use the carseat without the stroller for more than a short trip out of the car, ie a long walk through a parking garage and your arms will by dying!

I have hated this seat since day one. First, it is heavier than most seats. So, once your baby really starts growing (which happens quickly) it is just too darn heavy to carry. Second, the black is just way too hot, it's like putting your baby in a cooker (at least in the south) Third, the seat with base takes up waaaayyyy too much room in the back of the car (and I have a mid size suv) Forth, the cords are constantly getting tangled and it does not snap easily. Fifth, mine is very touchy to get in and out of the base and stroller--sometimes gets stuck. Add all this up with a baby who hates being in his car seat and it is not fun whatsoever.
br /
br /On a positive note, one thing that is great about it is the canopy. Definitely get a car seat with a canopy- this has been invaluable to have.
br /
br /I wish I had shopped around. But, being a first time Mom it's really hard to know what you'll need in a car seat. I would definitely NOT recommend this seat.

I will not own any other brand!!!!!

I was about 3 months pregnant when my co-worker forwarded me a youtube video on defective car seats. She had a 2 year old at the time and was looking into buying a new one. Ironically, someone emailed her the video link the day she decided to browse for them. It was one of the saddest story I had seen in a long time! A little boy was killed because of a defective car seat. After the parents did research on many, many name brands, Britax was about the safest one around. They wanted to warn other parents in memory of their baby boy. They also set up a car seat donation list for parents who could not afford to buy one. After doing my own research, I very pleased decided to get one as time got closer for our baby girl's arrival. Little did I know, my co-workers threw us a baby shower and bought it for us. I have absolutely no complaints! Its very sturdy and I feel very confidant that we have her in it. I would certainly recommend it to any, and everyone! It is very pricey, but well worth it. You can't put a price on your children! The best thing anyone can do for a friend or family member that is expecting, is to all go in halves to make sure their loved ones are riding safe! Here is the link! Hope all of you guys searching will take a look at this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ-5SBT8_1o
