Poor quality mirror surface

Granted, I know this is a soft mirror and given that... they can get scratched, dented, and the like... BUT the quality of this mirror is terrible. I bought one recently to see if I could replace the Fisher Price one I had been using (the Fisher-Price Deluxe Auto Mirror With Mirror Lights... which is a great mirror but sits a bit high so the view out the back window of my Subaru Outback is blocked more than I'd like). At first I thought the Baby In Sight mirror was a decent mirror (3 stars-ish) -- not as secure as the Fisher Price one I have but not bad. However, as soon as my baby managed to sneeze on the thing and I had to clean it... well, my impression changed completely. Even using a soft cloth (as directed), I managed to scratch the mirror. Before I did any more damage, I grabbed a camera lens cloth to clean the rest of the mirror's surface. Well, the whole thing ended up scratched -- so bad that it looked cloudy! I couldn't believe it. I mean, how much softer of a cloth are you supposed to use?!! No matter how carefully I tried to be while wiping it the silver mirror surface came off easily. Thankfully, BRU has a great return policy and so I returned it *immediately* for a full refund. My recommendation -- don't bother with this brand/style... go with a Fisher Price type as they are much more durable products. (And believe me, chances are that at some point your baby will sneeze, spit up, or the like in their car seat and the mirror will get it!)

I really liked this mirror because of the viewing size. However, it does have a VERY BIG FLAW. The mirror comes with a protective film to keep the plastic mirror from being scratched or damaged during shipping, installation, etc. After removing the protective plastic, I accidentally touched the mirror with my thumb. I went to GENTLY rub my thumbprint off with my t-shirt (a soft cloth) and the crappy plastic scratched instantly. Now there's a cloudy area right where I need to see my baby's face. What's the point of having a mirror if I can't see my baby? I have another plastic mirror from a different manufacturer that did not scratch when I wiped off my fingerprints - that's going back into my car. This one is going back to the store. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MIRROR TO ANYONE!

I really love having the mirror! We didn't get it until my son was 6 months or so, but I'm getting my money's worth now. I don't know about the projectile thing... ours secured to the tether at the top of the headrest, but if we get into that bad of a crash, I'm sure window glass, or something, would be more of a hazard... I recommend it.

Bought this mirror because of the great size which allowed me to see ALL OF MY BABY (UNLIKE THOSE OTHER PRETTIER MIRRORS). But within weeks, the hazy spots appeared on their own all over the mirror along with unexplained scratches.. Thought we may have done something wrong and we bought another one only to have the same thing happen again. We did not clean the mirror or touch it but the spots appeared on their own making it impossible to see the baby. If you buy it, expect it to last a couple of months at the most. You WILL be throwing it away.

I read through a few of the reviews and saw people saying they have been told it is not safe. This is untrue. I have been a certified child passenger safety technician for five years and can tell you, there is nothing unsafe about this product. The sides are soft and the mirror is plastic. Plus, it attaches to the tether so in a crash it isn't going to be flying around the car. But, even if it were, a soft, lightweight mirror with plastic in it is not a hazard. There are plenty of hazards in after market products (Bundle Me, Mighty Tight, Snuzzler, etc.) but this is not one of them.

I bought this mirror before my daughter was born mainly because it was plain and very large. I set it up along with her carseat and everything was great. By the time we took my daughter home from the hospital it was already hazy looking and we could only see her if one of us turned around to look in the mirror. Which kinda defeats the whole purpose! I took it out the other day thinking it was just needing to be cleaned and it got worse. The mirror is full of scratches and the whole thing is hazy! I am now in the market for a new mirror and now that my daughter is 2 months I really want one that does something to entertain her back there!

This seemed like a fabulous product but it almost instantly fogged over and became useless. The mirror was easy to install over the rear headrest of my 2001 Jetta and provided great visibility of the entire rear-facing car seat for 1 day. The next morning, I came out to my car to find the mirror completely fogged. No cleaner could remove the fog -- it's not a surface coating, it's something defective in the glass. Some other reviewers seemed to have had the same problem, others didn't -- wish I knew what I could do to prevent or remove the fog from the mirror!

I liked the idea of being able to see my daughter in the mirror and her being able to see herself. However, when I went to take the mirror out of my car to put into my husband's car, the strap snapped off completely. Apparently the strap doesn't do well in the heat of the summer and it just dried out completely. It could have flown off into her face had I ever needed to stop suddenly.
br /Very disappointing. I don't know if it's worth searching for a different brand.

We have our son in the middle of the back seat which does not have a headrest over it. We placed the mirror on a headrest to the right of the carseat base and it's very difficult to see the baby this way. It's also only been in the car for 2 weeks and somehow it's all scratched up already. We have the fisher price mirror in our other car and we're much happier with that one.

I bought this mirror with my oldest son, and it was very handy to have while he was rear-facing. While the mirror does scratch easily, it offers a nice wide view so you can see the baby while quickly glancing in your rear view mirror.
br /
br /I also had it checked by the police when I had the car seat installed, and they didn't have any concerns about it detaching or injuring the baby. In an accident, ANYTHING can become detached or a flying object in the car (groceries, stroller, toys) but this offers no greater risk than anything else you keep in the car. And being able to quickly glance and see that the baby is ok is IMO much safer than trying to pull over on a busy highway.
br /
br /I would highly recommend this mirror - it has lasted more than 2 yrs for us and is very reassuring.

Our SUV doesn't have a headrest for the center seat, but our child's carseat is centered in the backseat since that is the safest place to put it. I originally bought a Fisher Price mirror that I rigged to the left seat's headrest so I could see baby. That headrest always fell out of place whenever I drove over a bump. Then I bought the SafeFit Baby In Sight headrest and my husband was able to set it up on the left headrest with a decent view of the baby (who is still in the center seat). The mirror has stayed in place no matter how many bumps I've driven over. I gave the mirror four stars instead of five because I'd prefer if it was a little larger so I could have a better view of my child. Currently I can see his face on the side of the mirror and that is good enough for me, though I'd prefer if I had a better view. This mirror isn't great but it is good for vehicles that don't have a center head rest.

I have twins and drive a Honda Odyssey. I bought two of these mirrors obviously to view my babies while driving. They worked just fine for about a month but the first really humid day we had caused a fog (of sorts) to appear on the mirror and it hasn't gone away. I have tinted windows and screens on the back doors so I'm pretty certain this wasn't due to sun damage. I've tried wiping and scraping but the haze seems to be permanent. Perhaps this is due to the type of plastic.

Okay I'm at my wits end. I bought 2 of these mirrors (different brands) and I can't install either of them. I drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and the back seat has NO headrests. There's nothing to attach the mirror to. Also, I tried standing it up on the top of the seat but it's not angled properly and I can't see the baby at all. There's no way for me to install the mirror and see the baby. My husband looked it over and told me my Jeep is just not set up for these baby mirrors. Is this true and does anyone else have this problem?

The first three months it worked ok. The image in the mirror is not that sharp. Our summer is very hot (over 100 degrees) and the strap cracked after being under the sun for one Summer. I was going to throw it away because I cannot mount it in the back seat anymore. Then I figured out a way to sew it and repair it. I am not happy with the quality for the price I paid. There is really no need for a baby mirror. Just make sure that the baby is secured in the car seat.

Easy installation is all I can good about it. The day I got it I installed accidentally getting fingerprints on it. I looked at the package to see how to clean it. It said use a soft cloth. I did and it made so many tiny scratches I can't see anything with, but blur. With an infant you want to see your baby clearly. I emailed the company. Hopefully they will send a different one and I don't have the same problem.

First of all, you should not install this in your car as it can become a projectile in an accident (as the police officer who installed my car seat told me.)
br /Second of all, When you buy this mirror it comes with a "protective" piece of plastic over the mirror that you have to remove to use the mirror, but when you remove it, you see that the mirror is very foggy. I tried cleaning the mirror with water and a soft cloth, thinking that it was just some adhesive from the plastic, but it made it worse. Now the mirror is foggy, scratchy, and totally unuseable.
br /It's going back to the store today.

I agree with many of the other reviews here. Although this mirror has a great viewing size, once you touch the mirror, you might as well throw it away. After trying to clean a few finger prints off, the entire mirror was destroyed. It scratches and smudges so bad you can't see a thing. Useless!

Even after reading the negative reviews here of mirrors that fogged up and were uncleanable, I decided to order one and try my luck. Sure enough, as soon as I opened the package I discovered a mirror that was so cloudy I couldn't even see my reflection.

It is nice and soft, so it is probably a lot safer than some other (smaller, cheaper) mirrors, which are hard, solid plastic. I was actually able to install it in my car, which is a plus. (The afore-mentioned small, cheap, hard mirror was flat-out uninstallable in my car.) I don't find it too distracting when driving - since it is so big, it feels almost like I'm looking in my rearview mirror at a forward-facing child. I think that a smaller mirror would be much more distracting, as it would be harder to see.
br /However, it does have some problems. The one I got has some kind of dent right in the middle, which distorts the image and makes it difficult to determine my baby's mood by looking at his facial expression, as his face is distorted. It was somewhat difficult to install by clipping it to the tether; it seemed like the clip was upside down, and I had to twist the strap to make it work. Because it is so large, it does obstruct your view somewhat, although not enough to be really dangerous. Plus, and this is just nitpicking, I really wish it came in a different color. The product description mentions how it blends into car interiors, which I suppose would be true if my car had beige or navy blue upholstery. I really wish this came in a gray/black color scheme as both of my cars have gray interiors.
br /Overall, though - it does the job and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

My parents bought this for me shortly after my baby was born. I drive a Toyota Corolla and for the life of me, I could not get this mirror to work. There was just no way to attach this thing to the back seat so I could see my baby. I managed to 'gerry-rig' it with some tape and it worked for about 10 minutes until I turned a corner, then it moved and I couldn't see anymore. During those few minutes that I could see my baby, though, I was so distracted I didn't pay enough attention to the road.
br /Furthermore, I have read that it's unsafe to use a mirror like this since it can be be projected into the baby's face in the event of an accident.

I think I paid $12 for it... while not a fortune, I would expect a mirror to last at least a year. Afterall - it's just sitting there - it's not even getting touched. Buy a different model!

I really like the concept. The idea of allowing my son to see my eyes and for me to see his face while driving is a great one. However, this product doesn't really let me do that, primarily because of installation. The product comes with a couple suggested methods of installation. The first is by far the more secure (latching the tether to an anchor). The second is a lot less so.
br /
br /I could not get the item to tether because my car ('94 Toyota Camry) did not come with rear seat anchors. I looked online for them, and did not find any. I went to the dealer and they said there were none... they would have to 'make' one for it.
br /
br /That left me with placing the mirror's flap/strap behind the top of the seat (by dropping the seat and then locking it back into place. It seemed decently secure, but I could pull it out on my own if I yanked on it. In normal driving that should be fine. But in an accident, it might get loose and fall on the baby. Anyhow, I secured it the best I could and tried positioning it for viewing. To get it in place, the mirror was in a position where, when driving, if I had to stop or make a sharp turn, the mirror would fall backwards.
br /
br /Overall, I really like the idea. When the car is stopped, it is very nice. When it stays in place, it is great. But for me.. and the car I drive, it doesn't do that very much.

This is a good product, it helps me watch over my baby when driving, it is secured at the back of the seat, firmly so I doubt that it could snap off or in case of an accident fly off and hit the baby, it also has a fluffy material covering the mirror so in case that was to happen there are no pointy corners or hard plastic. I am not sure whether the mirror is made of glass or plastic so that is why I give it 4 stars.

I received this mirror as a shower gift, and I love it. The size of the mirror makes it very easy to see the baby. It was easy to install in my SUV (a JEEP LIBERTY). It doesn't have a headrest in the middle, but I have it hanging over the back of the seat. I attatched it with the strap to the LATCH slot in the cargo area. I have never had a problem with it shifting around OR fogging over.

I bought this wanting to see my son in a rear-facing carseat. First, I couldn't properly secure it with either the latch or velcro. Since we have a jeep grand cherokee and he was in the middle of the backseat there was no place to attach it. I finally managed to rig something up though but after just a short time the mirror surface was fogging and unclear. I certainly couldn't see him in the tiny rearview mirror attachment.

This product is one of the biggest wastes of money in baby gear I have purchased! It does not stay securely in place and is constantly moving so that baby is either out of view or it completely falls back flat. I've completely stopped using it at this point because I got tired of constantly messing with it. Whoever thought it would be a great idea to secure a mirror over a baby using velcro wasn't thinking things through.

I haven't experienced what some of the others experienced in terms of the FOG. I've been using this she was born in November! I think that this mirror is absoulutely fantastic and it gives me such a great sense of security while driving alone. I can see my baby in my rear view mirror, and depending how I'm positioned, when I turn around (at a stop light of course!) she can see me too!

THIS PRODUCT WAS EASY TO INSTALL TO HEADREST ON YUKON SEAT. I EVEN TILTED IT DOWN SO I COULD GET A BETTER VIEW OF THE BABY. BEWARE OF GLARE IN MIRROR WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND WHEN BACKING UP. IT CAN CONFUSE YOU.

Works well, but hard to install

This mirror was much bigger than I expected but for me that is a good thing. I can see the car seat very well (I'm sure I'll see baby when he comes), however it was hard to install on my car. I was kind of anticipating this because I live in Japan and have an older japanesse car (very similar to a 4 runner). It was super easy to SAFELY "jimmy rig" it. To me this is a great mirror, just not made for all cars (especially SUVs).

A must have for a traveling mom

Like some other reviewers have said, the mirror does scratch easily but for me, it's barely noticable.

br /I travel A LOT with my daughter at this time in our lives, so it seems impossible for me to drive without this mirror. It has been a lifesaver.

Excellent Choice!

I love this mirror. It is slightly distorted, but works great to see that baby is happy. Easy to install.

What's the fog about!!!!

We purchased and put this mirror in our car three weeks ago... from the moment we took the protective plastic film off of the mirror, it fogged up. We live in the south and the temperature - we thought - wouldn't pose a problem for us, but needless to say, our daughter is three weeks old and we haven't had a clear view since mounting the mirror. I am terribly dissappointed and am scared to purchase another mirror for the backseat - wondering if they all would do this. DON'T BUY THIS PEACE OF TRASH!!! It's not worth it!

I like the size of it.

I know it's not that safe to have this in your vehicle, but I have to see my baby. Anyway, I have been using this mirror for a little over three months now (since her birth) and I really can't complain about the mirror fogging up. I better cross my fingers. And I love the size of it. I can see her clearly. I did not know they had this mirror when I had my 2 older boys because I used a tiny little mirrors for them. Had I known about this, I would have gotten this instead--it would have prevented me from squinting just to see them. :)

br /I am giving it 3 stars because I really couldn't use the tether because my baby girl sits in the middle row of the van. I have the new Toyota Sienna and I have the captain chairs, so the strap just loops around the headrest. My husband installed it. It's okay. I would have preferred to use the tether for a more secured installation. But my baby girl does enjoy seeing herself and me through the mirror.

Not bad, but not great either

This mirror is ok compared to other ones I've bought or seen. The size is good, but it's not very clear.

LOVE IT!

This safety mirror is the perfect size for keeping an eye on your baby while traveling. I looked everywhere for one of these, and could only find tiny mirrors. I was thrilled to find this on-line! :-) I like that the mirror is made of safety materials, and that it's easily installed in the car.

I love this mirror. It is big and functional, we have one in both of our cars. The cutsie ones don't have large enough mirrors to be functional - so we returned those and bought this one instead.

Not that impressed.

I bought this mirror because it was cheaper, and I just wanted something for my baby to look at other than a seat when she was in the car. I never could install it in the car correctly, and shortly after I got it, it fogged up. I bought a different brand with a remote that I like a lot more, and so does she. I don't really think that she cares about the fog, so now I use it inside for her to look at and play with. I you want a mirror for your baby in the car, I'd spend the few extra bucks, and get one a little more entertaining.

We registered for and received this mirror, thinking how great it would be to see our baby while driving. We have a 4-door sedan (Kia Optima), and no matter what we tried we could not get the mirror installed to work. My husband even tried holding it at different angles, but it didn't allow me to see the baby at all. I definitely don't recommend this item.

We installed this in our SUV that has a latch in the back for such devices. During inspection at the hospital, no one mentioned that it was a safety risk, but we will take it to the fire dept next time. For our peace of mind, the mirror was Heaven sent.
