I hate to say it - but this is the seat that has officially turned me into a Britax snob. The only car seats I had experience with prior to trying this one were the Graco baby bucket and the Britax Roundabout and Marathon. I had heard now and then the frightening statistic that so-and-so percentage of car seats are installed incorrectly and I couldn't understand how that could be - how hard is it to install a car seat properly? Turns out, it depends on the car seat.
br /
br /We were recently visiting family back east and my nephew has this particular car seat - one in my father's car, one in my brother's car. One on occasion I was going to go somewhere with my dad and rather than go in our car or move our car seat to his car, we opted to use my nephew's seat for my son. However, it turned out the straps were on the lowest setting which was too low for either of the boys so I took the car seat out to adjust the straps and... quickly came to regret not simply moving our own car seat to my dad's car.
br /
br /This seat is a royal pain in the behind to install properly. In theory, it goes in just like a Britax - clip the two LATCH hooks on either side, clip the third hook at the top, put your weight in and pull all the straps tight. However, the way the lower strap went through this seat, I just could not get it tight to my satisfaction - the front would wiggle easily no matter what I did. And the top hook is just pure evil by design - it is very, very complicated to tighten.
br /
br /I looked in the manual, I looked on line, I called a friend who I remembered had one of these seats as an "extra." The best I could figure out, this model is sold with two different types of top anchor strap. One has a normal seeming strap that you just pull to tighten... and you lift up on the tightening portion of the strap to loosen. The other has this insanely convoluted piece of metal with several slits in it for the strap to pass through and wrap back and forth and under and around itself. With the latter, you pretty much need to guess how long or short to make the strap BEFORE you install the seat, because adjusting it on the fly is difficult if not impossible.
br /
br /I checked at Target the other day and the seat they are selling there had the "easier" style of top anchor tightener but I don't know if they are all like that now. The manual we had for the seat listed both types. Be sure when you buy that the top strap has the easier type of adjuster.
br /
br /Beyond the top fastener issue, though, like I said, I found it hard to get the bottom strap just right. We had to have a complicated system of towels under the seat in my dad's car to help it sit in there solid - aside from the positioning aspect of things this seat has two raw plastic protrusions on the bottom which have begun to slice in the seat in my dad's car (Hyundai Sonata)
br /
br /One one occasion we moved my nephew's car seat to our rental car (Saturn Aura) to take both boys somewhere and we had no better luck with ease of installation. It still took a lot of sweating, straining, and swearing to get it in there.
br /
br /With our Britax seats, I have never had a problem in any vehicle with making the car seats fit, and I can have them removed and re-installed in less than 5 minutes. The Cosco seat drove me crazy. I will give this seat 3 stars because it is affordable and is supposed to meet safety requirements but I would not buy it without making very sure it fits in YOUR car and that is has the easier to use top strap attachment. I would also not suggest it if there is much chance of your having to move the seat frequently. And protect you seats with something if you don't want them getting torn up!

The top clip is not difficult for me to use but my daughter hasn't figured it out yet - which is the way I want it. I've also used it as a booster and I was satisfied with the way the buckle looped through and stayed in place. I also like the strap on the bottom that allows me to add a little slack or tighten it a little. I think that's a really important feature - especially in this season when my kid may be wearing a jacket one day and none the next and also if you use the car seat for different kids that are similar but not exactly the same size. I have another car seat without that and I find that sometimes I can't get it closed because it's too tight and sometimes there's too much slack.

This is a solid seat that will fit well in most compact cars.

br /I ended up sending this back due to the fact that while the product description says it is for 22lbs and up, the box adds a minimum height requirement (36 inches) that I did not see on Amazon. Quite possibly it's listed somewhere and I missed the line. Just something to be aware of.

I bought this seat to bridge the gap between baby seat and booster seat for my 17mos old boy. He's 24 lbs and 32" and the fit is fine. No issues with the harness system or the installation. It's not the most stylish seat, but for that price who really cares. Seems comfy, easily adjustable and has a cup holder. The boy likes it better than his Eddie Bauer baby seat that cost 3 times as much.

I just love the Cosco High Back Booster. This is the third Cosco High Back Booster seat that I have bought. I used it for both of my daughters and was happy when I found it 6 years later for my son. The straps are very easy to adjust and this feature comes in handy for a perfect fit no matter what my son has on. I also love the cup holder and my son looks so cute and comfortable sitting in it. Thanks for such a great product!

We brought this seat for the daughter when she out grew her infant seat. I think we paid about $35.00 at wal mart for it. It lasted her two years and then we used it with oru son for a year until the plastic on the seat(where you hook up the harness broke. It is also easy to clean. Alothough taking off the cover can be a little tricky.

We've had this carseat for a few months now. We bought it to go in my husband's car so we wouldn't be doing the "change the carseat all the time" thing. Also, because her main carseat in our Odyssey is the Britax Boulevard, which is NOT a carseat to be lugging from one car the the other. Sometimes I ride with friends when we go out and I always use this seat, because it's easier to move and install. This seat does what it's supposed to do when it needs to be used (which is only a few times a month). My hubby's car is a Ford Escort wagon and it's perfect because the seat is not so big. The Britax would NEVER fit into the Escort! The Escort is a '98 so it doesn't have the LATCH system, but I didn't find it hard at all to get this carseat installed with the seat belt. I did it by myself and got a really tight fit (it barely moved). I was very pleased with that because when it comes to installing my daughter's carseat I'm fanatical about it being done correctly. I only gave it four stars because of a few things: 1) the straps do get twisted, 2) the plastic strap slots on the bottom sides seem to "pop" off and I have to push them back in until they snap back into place, and 3) I did use this carseat using the LATCH belt in the Odyssey for my friend's daughter and it didn't have as tight of a fit as the seatbelt in the Escort. The seat didn't slide more than an inch at the belt, but I noticed the top of the seat back slid around a lot and pulled easily away from the Odyssey's seat back. To fix this problem, I simply secured the seat with the seatbelt as well and that helped tremendously! Baby Number 2 is on the way and once he or she outgrows the infant seat, they will be moved to the Britax and my oldest will use this seat as a belt-positioning booster. Anyway, this is a great seat for the money.
br /
br /Update - November 11, 2008
br /Since I wrote the original review, I realized that the reason the top of the seat was unstable in the Odyssey's captain's chair, was because I did not use the tether on the back of the seat (DUH!). When I used the seat again in the Odyssey (had to clean the Britax), I used the LATCH system and the tether anchor that goes behind the car's seat, and the thing was rock solid! I also figured out a better way to tighten the LATCH belt too. The seat is still working out great too, although my daughter has just about outgrown the top slot. I really want to keep her in a harness, so I've been checking out the new Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 seat. If you're looking at this one, then go for that one! Just my observation. If Graco had that one out when I needed this one, I would have bought that one! But, alas, there will always be something new and better around the bend! Hope this update is helpful to all you lookers!
For the price, this carseat is quite functional.

I love this car seat. I've used it for my twins who are 18 months old as well as for my 4 year old. It is a little hard to latch in, but I don't move the car seats to another car so it is fine with me. They are very secure, easy to get the kids in and out of and have plenty of room for the kids to grow.

br /We bought this as a second car seat for our 2 1/2 year-old daughter. Although she is at the low end of the weight recommendation, the seat fits her well. Not nearly as well padded as pricier seats, but she doesn't seem to mind, even on long trips. Easy to buckle and tighten. Very lightweight (great for airline travel!) One downside is the configuration of the LATCH clips and belt; on one rental car I had to wedge a folded towel under the seat to be able to tighten it properly. Overall a decent product at an amazing price.

I am by no means a brand snob, so when I wanted to get a second seat for my daughter to use when she's at her grandma's house, I turned to this one. It was the most inexpensive seat I found that still had everything I wanted. It is easy to get in and out, which is perfect because the grandparents can use it in whichever car they want. Its not quite as comfy as the one we got for my car (an evenflo), but since we don't use it on long distances, it works out fine. I found this on sale at Target for $30, and I'm glad I didn't spend any more for a second seat. This one works just perfectly!

This booster car seat was just what we were looking for! It was easy to install (we didn't find it any more difficult than other car seats). It's easy for our 3 year old to climb into by herself, which has proven to be very convenient quite a help when we're rushing out the door. We're still using the harness, which she can buckle the chest clasp by herself but isn't strong enough for the other latch.

Difficut Installation - Check the Tether Before You Buy

I read the reviews, and decided on this seat for my 3 year old daughter. I only have experience with the Snug Ride and Britax Roundabout and Marathon. I thought that for our second vehicle, this seat would work great and it was much cheaper (and seemingly as safe as) other seats. Well, I found the installation to be miserable. The angle that the LATCH belt goes through the seat makes it difficult to tighten properly. And the tether...well, I just installed this seat and I can't think of one nice word to say about that tether. It is impossible to adust. I had to take the seat out several times to try to get the tether long enough. Then trying to tighten it is literally nearly impossible. The directions are as confusing as the tether itself. Why you can't just pull on the tether and have it tighten is beyond me. The Britax tethers are so easy to use. With this one, you have to unleash part of it, then loop it through, then the straps don't pull flat and there is slack in the line. You have to take the seat out and hold it an an upright angle to get the straps to tighten. If you should happen to shorten (or lengthen) the tether too much, you have to start all over. I can't believe that they would sell a tether like this. I don't know if other versions of this seat have a better tether because other people don't seem to have this trouble. I bought this one at Target. Check the tether before you buy!!!!
Definitely a decent backup

We have been looking for a front-facing car seat for our son, who turned 1 year last month. Looked around and I should honestly say that I did not find much choice (Targets, Walmarts, BabaysRUs and Amazon etc). Bought this, going by the positive reviews. Doesnt seem to be a bad choice, has a nice fluffy padding (suggested by our friends that we should go with one which is comfortable for the little bottom). Installation was easy with the LATCH in our Odyssey. The tightening of the belt around the latches was a bit hard though. The top anchor held the seat tight in place. Like another reviewer said, the box says the seat is for 22 to 80 pounds and 32 to 54 inches children. But our son, who is 26 inches fits in fine in the seat. I especially liked the front lever, which lets you loosen the 5-point harness belt before placing the child in the seat and once seated, lets you tighten the belt to suit his body/clothing on the given day. Overall, satisfied with the purchase.

This car seat is practical. I watch children out of my home and occasionally have to pick up my older daughter at school, at which time all the children must be loaded in the car. My personal favorite is a Britax but they are too expensive to purchase 4 or 5 to have in my car, therefore this works great for the occasional car ride.

I'm returning this car seat. After only using it twice, the belt clip pulled right out when I went to clip my child into the seat. I was disconcerted when it came out so easily and wondered how easily it might come out in an actual car accident. The manual tells you how to re-insert it, but the model I bought only has one slot for it, so there is no reason to make it easy to pull out (since it isn't adjustable with multiple slots for different sized kids). I'm not taking my chances on this seat...

I bought this model from a store, but it was pink. I brought it home and had my daughter sit in it uninstalled. She is 3 1/2, weighs 34 lbs, and measures 31" from shoulder to floor standing. ALthough very average in size, she was too tall for the harness (the strap came out a tad below) and too small to use the car's seat belt. I don't see how this seat is safe for the majority of toddlers. Are people moving to booster too quickly because of this product? They must be!

We found this one on sale at Amazon and it had good ratings so I figured what the heck. The reviews were right, it's one great little seat! No complaints here, our daughter uses the cup holder, has fallen asleep in it with no problems, the padding seems adequate. Don't let the price disuade you from buying it. Don't waste your money on the more expensive seats. Once you transition from the infant seat (at around 8 to 9 months) this is the perfect choice. It has the 5 point harness system and then eventually moves up to being just a booster seat for when they get older. The price is great and the padding is decent. It seems to be holding up well with my active one year old. The color is great for boys and it also has a cup holder which is very convenient. Good value for your money.

I have been reviewing booster car seats because my 3 year old's Century seat is about to expire so she needs a new seat. She is not yet tall or heavy enough to have just the belt positioning--she still needs a harness. I am a little disturbed to read that some reviews state you can go from an infant seat to this booster seat. so please be aware of your baby's size.
br /
br /if your baby is under one year old they SHOULD NOT be in a seat like this. Babies 1 and under should still be rear facing EVEN IF they are over 20lb; the rule is 20lb AND 12 mths old. These types of boosters are made to go forward only. and the height restrictions on these seats are important. even though alot of these types of boosters state 20-40 lbs. the height restrictions usually start around 34-35". average toddlers meet the weight but NOT the height restrictions so BE careful.

br /there are many choices to choose from in the "convertible" type car seats. those are the seats that can go rear OR forward facing; made for babies too big for the infant carrier type seat, not tall enough for a booster, and the convertible usually go up to at least 40lb (many go up to 80lb) so your toddler has time to grow tall enough for a booster.

br /I know it can be inconvenient and frustrating to have to transition your kid through three seats and some can't afford it. but it is worth your kids life. Luckily, there are some seats made that can take your baby from newborn all the way to belt positioning--these are called 3 in 1 seats. they are a bit more in the beginning but you use the seat for six years.

br /The only drawback is that research does show infants are safer in the infant carrier plus its nice not to wake your little one up getting out of the car. so maybe some people could just go from an infant carrier to a 3 in 1--then you only have to buy two seats for one kid.
